DPO Escapes With Four Suspects As Angry Youths Attack Police Station

Angry youths have  attacked the  police station in Zurmi town, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara.
The irate youth from the community,  during the Saturday  evening attack, demanded that the three suspected bandits arrested by the army  and handed over to the police be released to them.

Zamfara State Police Command’s  Public Relations Officer(PRO),  SP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident to newsmen in Gusau on Sunday.
Shehu said the three suspects were among the bandits who attacked villages in Mashema District of Zurmi Local Government Area on July 24, 2018.
He said  when the news of the arrest of the suspects got  into the town, some irate youths mobilised themselves to the police station and burnt  a vehicle and some motorcycles at the station.
The command’s spokesman  said the Divisional Police Officer in the area and other police officers at the police station escaped with the suspects through the back fence of the station.
He said normalcy has  since been restored and the suspects have  been handed over to the state police command for further investigation.
Shehu also advised  members of the public  to be law abiding and avoid taking laws into their hands.
Over 12,000 persons have  been displaced from 18 communities in Zurmi Local Government Area and  are presently camped by the state government at some government facilities in the town.

CITAD Faults FEC’s Approval of FCT Land SWAP Initiative, Call for Suspension
