Insurgents Kidnap 100 Passengers On Transit

Taliban insurgents kidnapped 100 passengers on three buses have been taken hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan’s embattled north, officials said, even as a ceasefire announced by the government was set to begin. Esmatullah Muradi, a spokesman for the Kunduz governor, on Monday said the kidnapping happened on Monday morning when three passenger buses were coming from Takhar province to the capital, Kabul. “The buses were stopped by the Taliban fighters, passengers were forced to step down and they have been taken to an undisclosed location,” he said. (Reuters/NAN)

Army Uncovers Boko Haram Recruitment Link On Social Media

By Josephine Ella-Ejeh The Nigeria Army has uncovered a Facebook other social media accounts, allegedly used by a faction of the Boko Haram group to recruit new members. Artillery Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major Murtala Usman disclosed this  on Tuesday while speaking at the ongoing Nigerian Army Combat Support Training Week in Maiduguri. He said the social media accounts had 2,000 followers. Usman said that insurgents from the Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram group were recruiting new members on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, SnapChat, Instagram and the Youtube. 'Most Wanted' Boko Haram Commander Finally Arrested

By Josephine Ella-Ejeh A notorious suspected commander of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, Maje Lawan   who has being on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army has finally   been arrested at Banki, Borno State. The Army announced the arrest of the suspect in a statement by its spokesman, Brig.-Gen Texas Chukwu. Lawan who is believed to be number 96 on the wanted list earlier published by the army was apprehended after he infiltrated an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in the area. “The suspect is currently undergoing preliminary investigation and will be handed over to the appropriate authority for further action,” Chukwu said. In a related development, the army spokesman said troops had neutralised two terrorists at Malari village also in Borno during an ambush while others fled into the bush.
