Breaking: Bandits attack Federal Government College in Kebbi, scores abducted

  B andits on Thursday afternoon struck at Federal Government College in Birnin-Yauri, in Kebbi state and abducted scores of students. A policeman who tried to challenge the bandits was gunned down, according to witnesses in the town. Birnin-Yauri is in Yelwa-Yauri LGA of the state. Early in June, no fewer than 88 people were killed by bandits in communities in in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area the State.

Amotekun busts Fulani bandits with AK-47 rifle in Oyo

  Operatives of the Oyo State Security Network code-named Amotekun has apprehended two suspected armed bandits. Amotekun media unit announced the arrest of the two suspects in a statement on Thursday stating that they were nabbed with an AK47 rifle, pump Action, and a Dane gun. The suspects identified as Mumini Saliu, aged 45, and 25-year-old Ibrahim Suleiman were nabbed at Alapa Village, Lanlate town in Ibarapa East Local Government Area. “Saliu and Suleiman had 82 rounds 7.62 ammunition, and 7 cartridges amongst other harmful weapons in their possession when they were arrested,” the statement revealed. Reportedly, the suspects who are of Fulani extraction could only speak in their language and they revealed that they were recruited from Katsina State by their leader. CITAD Faults FEC’s Approval of FCT Land SWAP Initiative, Call for Suspension

  The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has faulted the Federal Executive Council's approval of the Land Swap Initiative of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).   The  non- governmental organisation working to ensure good governance through the use of information and communication technologies for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development made its stance known on Thursday in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, a copy of which Humanity Watch obtained.   The FEC had at the end of its meeting on Wednesday announced that it was resuming the FCT   Land Swap Initiative that was earlier suspended by the government following allegations of corruption. Shortage of Vaccine: Merkel Push for Global COVID-19 Vaccine Production

  German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday called for global COVID-19 vaccine production in her speech at the Global Solutions Summit 2021. To overcome the COVID-19 crisis, “we need to provide access to sufficient vaccines, medicines and tests for all, including the poorest countries,’’ said Merkel. Meanwhile, Merkel called on G20 countries to support the international campaign ACT-Accelerator to the best of their abilities. She urged them to accelerate the development of tools against COVID-19 and make them available to all countries in a fair manner. According to Merkel, there was a lack of funds not only for vaccine distribution but also for production expansion. Meanwhile, as one of the ACT Accelerator’s largest donors, Germany would support the global initiative with 2.2 billion euros (2.7 billion U.S. dollars). “The world is a community of fate, said Merkel, adding that there’s no lack of major challenges” she added.

  Wanted Ponzi scheme operator Omotade-Sparks Amos Sewanu, who fled from Badagry, Lagos State, has been arrested by the EFCC in Sokoto. Sewanu was the mastermind of the Inks Nation Ponzi Scheme. The suspect who had been at large, was finally arrested on 27 May. He has made useful statement, EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said on Friday. Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Invade Benue, Kill 36 in Katsina-Ala

  Daredevil gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias have reportedly invaded Shikaan Mbagena Kpav community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 36 people. The incident according to reports occurred on Thursday night when the armed men invaded the community and slaughtered scores of people. According to a source, 36 bodies have been recovered while scores are still missing after the attack. Reports also have it that some students of the College of Education in Katsina-Ala were also killed. The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine said she was yet to receive report of the incident as the time of filing this report.
