Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has taken its public  sensitization workshop on Local Community Network to Pasepa, a neglected community in Bwari Area Council of  Abuja, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory. The intervention is part of CITAD's community-led approach to addressing the digital divide in Nigeria. As part of  the organization's community-led approach towards bridging the digital divide in Nigeria, the workshop which held on Wednesday at the ICT Centre deployed by CITAD and Actionaid Nigeria in the community also drew participants from neighbouring communities in Jiko, Ijebesa including traditional rulers, religious leaders, women leaders, youth leaders and other members of the communities.   The Kebbi State Government has donated six operational vehicles and 30 motorcycles to the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto, towards fighting banditry in the state. Retired Maj. Rabi’u Kamba, Special Adviser to Gov. Abubakar Bagudu on Security, presented the items to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Division at a ceremony in Birnin Kebbi. Kamba said the gesture was aimed at supporting the military in its quest to end kidnappings and banditry in the state. “We are committed to intensifying the pursuit of tackling security challenges in the state through the provision of necessary moral and material support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. “The presentation of six new Hilux vehicles and 30 motorcycles to the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto is part of our commitment as a government with the primary responsibility of securing its people,” he said.   Six states in Northern Nigeria reported 3,541 cases of cholera in the last two weeks, 13 June to 26 June, with 325 dead in six months. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), gave the figures in Abuja on Saturday. Most affected is Bauchi state, which has recorded 2,139 cases, about one-seventh of the 14,343 cases posted from January to June. Kano, the most populous state in the north is the second worst affected state. It logged 937 cases in the last two weeks. Other states with cholera cases in the last two weeks are Zamfara with 169 cases and Kaduna with 129. Niger reported 62 cases and Plateau nine. NCDC Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu said the 14, 343 cases reported from January to June came from 15 states and the FCT. The affected states are Benue, Delta, Zamfara, Gombe, Bayelsa, Kogi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Kebbi, Cross-River, Nasarawa, Niger.   The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Christopher Obilor a suspected armed robber and Higher National Diploma student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede. In a press statement by Imo State Police PRO, CSP Michael Abattam, the suspect was arrested after report that the suspect has been terrorising Nekede community. He was arrested at his hideout along Nekede Polytechnic Road by the Imo State command’s tactical squad. A locally made cut to size double barrel gun, one short axe, a saw blade and substance suspected to be hard drug were exhibits recovered when the suspect’s house was searched. At least four neglected communities, Leleyi Gwari, Dakwa, Tungan-Ashere  and Paseppa in Kwali,  Abuja Municipal Area Council(AMAC) and Bwari Area Councils of Abuja, Nigeria capital city, grappling with network challenges will soon hive a sigh of relief. The hard to reach communities suffering from government neglect especially in the area of basic social amenities are to benefit from the Community Network Project being implemented by CITAD with support from the Association of Progressive Communications(APC).   Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said that Nigeria has an estimated 10,193,918 Out-of-School Children, the highest in sub-Saharan Africa. Nwajiuba stated this during the inauguration of “Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA)”, in Katsina on Monday. The programme started in 2018. According to him, the Nigerian Education system is characterised by high illiteracy level and infrastructural decay. “We have inadequate number of qualified teachers, inadequate infrastructural facilities/resources and poor funding,” he added. Nwajiuba congratulated the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, on his giant stride to reposition education in the state. He said this is a clear demonstration of high leadership quality and personal commitment to education. The group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,  Mele Kolo Kyari,   has justified the plan to buy a 20 percent stake in the $11 billion Dangote refinery. “There is no resource-dependent country that will watch a business of this scale, which borders on energy security and has implications for fiscal security of the country, and you don’t have a say,” Mr Kyari said on Tuesday. He spoke in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, while also disclosing that the NNPC planned to borrow to pay for its shares. “For the Dangote refinery, we are not taking government money to buy it, which is the mistake that people are making,” he said. “We are borrowing on the back of the cash-flow of this business. “We know that this business is viable, it will work and it will return dividends.
