Buhari Write Senate, Asks For Approval Of N164bn For 2019 Election

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday wrote the Senate to request for an approval of a supplementary budget/ Virement of N164 billion to fund the 2019 general and presidential elections.

Buhari in the letter which was read at plenary by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said that the N164 billion requested as supplementary is to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) to commence preparation for the polls.

He explained that the total amount required for the 2019 election is N242 billion.

Buhari asked the National Assembly to remove a total of N228 billion as reinstatement from the ‘padded’ N578 billion in the 2018 budget to fund critical projects.

The N228 billion, according to the President is for “relocating some of the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted into the 2018 budget proposal totally N578 billion to cover the sum of N228 billion required.”

Gunmen invade Edo community, kill 3, abduct 13 children, women

Heavily-armed gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have reportedly invaded Emokpae community, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, where they killed three persons. The invaders were said to have also hijacked a bus conveying 13 passengers, including school children and market women, and marched them into the forest. he people of Emokpae community staged a peaceful protest to the State Government House in Benin on Friday. Spokesman for the community who gave his name simply as Egua, told journalists that the 13 passengers were still being held captives by the gunmen.
