Man, 29, Arrested, Arraigned For Stealing Two Pigs



A 29-year-old man, Segla Bologna, who stole two pigs worth N70,000, on Monday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.
Bologna, whose address was unknown, was arraigned on a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector  Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 21, 2018 at Topo Garage in Badagry.



Ikem said the stolen pigs belonged to the complainant, Mr Idowu Thomas.
“The accused saw the pigs roaming on the street and he decided to steal them thinking no one would notice. He was about driving away with them in his car before he was apprehended by the owner,” he said.
The offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 10, for further hearing. (NAN)

Nigeria has Africa’s highest out-of-school children

  Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said that Nigeria has an estimated 10,193,918 Out-of-School Children, the highest in sub-Saharan Africa. Nwajiuba stated this during the inauguration of “Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA)”, in Katsina on Monday. The programme started in 2018. According to him, the Nigerian Education system is characterised by high illiteracy level and infrastructural decay. “We have inadequate number of qualified teachers, inadequate infrastructural facilities/resources and poor funding,” he added. Nwajiuba congratulated the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, on his giant stride to reposition education in the state.
