SDP Blasts Buhari’s APC-Led Government Over Desperate Moves To Take Over Senate

By Josephine Ella-Ejeh
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has lambasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government over its desperate moves to change the leadership of the Senate.
Condemning Tuesday morning’s siege on the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), the party’s National Chairman, Chief Olu Falae said the assault of democracy must stop.

In a statement issued by the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Alfa Mohammed, Chief Olu Falae further condemned what he described as open breach of the nation’s ground norm, the 1999 constitution as amended, which enjoins separation of powers and independence of the legislature.
The security operatives had arrived at the complex as early as 6.00 am and blocked the main National Assembly entrance in an apparent move to oust the senate president, Bukola Saraki.
The DSS operatives had not only blocked some PDP Senators from gaining entry into NASS premises but also prevented staff of the National Assembly and journalists from entering as armed and masked officials of the service blocked access into the National Assembly complex.
Chief Olu Falae who expressed regrets that the country was fast sliding into total anarchy, called for an end to the desperate moves by the APC-led administration to salvage Nigerian democracy.
“We are gradually being pushes to a state of anarchy due to the desperation of the government in power to force a change in the leadership of the Senate.
“This conduct amounts to assault on the Democracy which we risked our lives and fought for and a declaration by government that we can all take the law into our own hands! This desperation must stop,” said Chief Falae who was a veteran in the battle for Nigerian Democracy.
